The Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism is pleased to announce that Professionalism Counsel Mark C. Palmer has been elected to the Illinois State Bar Association’s (ISBA) Board of Governors. Palmer will serve a 3-year term as lead representative for the 5th, 6th and 11th Judicial Circuits beginning on June 13, 2019, the opening of the ISBA Annual Meeting.
The 27-member ISBA Board of Governors oversees the operations and management of the ISBA, subject to policies set by the 203-member Assembly. Voting in the election was open to ISBA members.
“Mark has dedicated his career to improving the administration of justice through education and outreach to the legal community,” said Jayne Reardon, Executive Director of the Commission on Professionalism. “He is the embodiment of civility and professionalism and an ideal representative for the ISBA Board of Governors. On behalf of the Commission, I congratulate Mark on this well-deserved honor.”
As Professionalism Counsel, Palmer leads the Commission’s nationally renowned lawyer-to-lawyer mentoring program. The program creates opportunities for experienced lawyers to share professional guidance with new attorneys. It has served as a model for similar programs across the U.S.
Palmer also supports the development and delivery of educational programming for judges, lawyers and law students across Illinois. This includes spearheading the Commission’s first-in-the-nation Courthouse Professionalism Training, which addresses specific issues that impede civility and professionalism in the court system.
