The Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism is pleased to announce the launch of a free online CLE on lawyer well-being. The Busy Lawyer’s Guide to Well-Being introduces attorneys to well-being as a holistic approach and addresses confusion around what the term really means.
“Many people hear ‘well-being’ and assume they’re going to be lectured on eating better and exercising, but it’s much more than that,” said Dan Davies, Education Manager at the Commission on Professionalism. “The Busy Lawyer’s Guide to Well-Being encourages attorneys to think of well-being holistically, giving them tools to balance all aspects of their lives. This, in turn, can lead to more sustainable personal and professional lives and greater overall well-being.”
The Busy Lawyer’s Guide to Well-Being is available on the Commission on Professionalism’s website. Attorneys who complete the CLE are eligible to receive 0.5 hours of mental health and substance abuse CLE credit in Illinois.
Goals of the CLE
During the 30-minute interactive eLearning attorneys will (1) understand the extent of the well-being crisis in the legal profession, (2) identify potential symptoms of stress, and (3) learn strategies to help maintain their well-being.
Importantly, lawyers will be able to evaluate their well-being and identify areas for improvement in six dimensions of their lives. These include emotional, occupational, intellectual, spiritual, social, and physical.
The Busy Lawyer’s Guide to Well-Being is the sixth free online CLE developed by the Commission. It serves as a complementary course to The Resilient Lawyer CLE. Additional courses on incivility, diversity, and ethics and professionalism in the legal profession are also available on the Commission’s website.
