Judge Alicia Washington has served on the Tenth Judicial Circuit since January 2016 where she presides in the Civil Court at the Tazewell County Courthouse. Prior to her appointment as an associate judge, the Peoria native was a civil attorney at Janssen Law Center handling personal injury cases and worker’s compensation claims. She also advocated for clients at Prairie State Legal Services where she began her legal career.
Judge Washington has made a name for herself in Peoria as a recipient of Peoria’s 40 under 40. She was also recently recognized in the Peoria Magazine’s InterBusiness Issues as one of the Women of Influence and as a rising star in Illinois Super Lawyers 2012. Judge Washington remains active in the legal community as well as a member of the Peoria County Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Illinois Judges Association, and the NBA Association. Judge Washington is also the Vice-Chairperson of the Illinois Judicial College Committee on Judicial Education.
Judge Washington received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois in Business Administration and completed her master’s in leadership in Human Service Administration from Bradley University, returning to her hometown. She went on to receive her J.D. from Michigan State University.
Judge Washington is a member of the Illinois Committee on Judicial Education. She also served as Chair for the Illinois/DUI/Traffic Seminar 2019/2021. She is a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Workgroup, the New Judges Orientation Workgroup, and the State and Federal Workgroup.
Judge Washington has served on the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism since 2017.
