Today marks not only the beginning of week leading up to Halloween, but also a very important time within the legal community – Pro Bono Week.
Across the globe, lawyers will be making a point to volunteer their time and services to those in need, while also generating an awareness that pro bono service is available year round for all different types of cases and clientele.
The Chicago Bar Foundation launched its first celebration back in 2005, and continues to provide a week of events featuring movies, CLE, game nights, and a pro bono/community service fair open to the general public.
Not solely focused in the Chicagoland area, Pro Bono Week is celebrated on a national level within the United States, and even internationally, in more than 14 different countries.
Pro Bono service distinguishes the legal profession from many career paths. Lawyers commit themselves to providing free access to justice to the general public, a commitment that lawyers work to fulfill not only this week, but every week of the year.
